PPP Creative Strategy - New Online Presence

For my online presence I had a website that I made in college three or four years ago, so I just decided to revamp the old website and make it into my new animation based site. For the website I used the site builder WIX because it's free and easy to use, plus you can upgrade your site so that you have your own domain name with no ads from WIX.

In my website I wanted to have different sections where people can see my animations separately from my VFX videos, I also have another section each for my showreel and contact details info. I've also linked my Instagram, Facebook and YouTube pages to my website so that when people look at my site they can go to other pages of mine and see other pieces of work that I've done.

My website didn't take too long to create due to the fact that I just had to revamp it, but I'm still working on it because I feel like it's just not quite me or I feel like I need to just add more about me and my work. When I had a tutorial with my tutor Mike, he suggested that I added a blog on my website so that people can see the behind the scenes of my animations and the other interests I have in animation and just to see that I have a passion for animation.

Live Brief - Light Night Leeds

For the Light night project I got given a brief by are tutor Annabeth to come up with a one second animation about the theme 'We Are Universe'. This meant that I had about 12 - 24 frames to fill with something to do with the universe. This seems easy to do but it was quite hard to think of a quick animation and out the universe because I could literally do anything.

Are final animations would be projected onto a screen in the Kirkgate market area, where Leeds college of Music and the Dance College will be performing as well. Leeds Light Night is an annual multi arts and light festival which takes over leeds city Centre over two nights in October. Thousands of visitors witness the city centre come alive with over 50 artworks exploring earth, air, water and fire, including spectacular light projections, as well as film, dance, music, theatre, exhibitions and street performances.

For my animation I thought I would keep it simple because it's only shown for a second so I don't want to do anything too complex because people won't have time to follow what's going on. So what I have done is an animation which shows the world spinning and stars popping up round the earth, it's a simple animation and it's going to be in a style of motion graphics and I'm creating the animation in After Effects just to speed up the process.

Live Brief - The Lifting Tower

Throughout the brief there were some implications with the group due to the fact that Thomas was very hard to get a hold of, he didn't come to any of the meetings we had and he didn't communicate with us (Katy and I) if wanted an animation doing for him.

it also took a long time for the animation itself to start because Charlie and I had to research on how to do morphing effects in after effects, also I had to teach Charlie how to use after effects as well. But once we understood how the effect was created I was able ti start animating. The morphing effects didn't actually take too lang to create, however Charlie was making all the assets for the animation so I had to wait for him to send the assets over before the animating could start.

Katy animated the sphere flying through the trees, However the idea changed a bit and the sphere turned into a flying worm that lighted up the trees as it passes through the area. We didn't really have any problems with that because if she needed any help I could easily help her due to us being room mates. I also made another animation based on there being different christmas symbols on the lifting tower and there is a spotlight which reveals them when it shines at the symbol.

It turned out that Thomas was working by himself and didn't need us to help him with is idea or his animation. This worked out well for the rest of us but it meant that it was one less piece of work to do.

Live Project - The Lifting Tower

After a big meeting with the client and all of us (the Animators, Illustrators and Graphic Designers) we were placed into different groups that before. So now I was in a group with Katy (from Animation), Charlie (from Graphic Design) and Thomas (from illustration). This set us back a bit but we pulled all are ideas together and I managed to keep the previous idea where the sphere like object is flying through the trees and ends up making the shape of a christmas tree with its trail at the end. The other ideas we had in the group was that we had a morphing animation where christmas objects morph into one another throughout the animation. Another idea that Thomas had was based on a snowman robbing another snowman's carrot nose.

Charlie had already made an animation where objects morph into one another but we couldn't use it due to the file being in the wrong format and not sized correctly. However, we did use it for inspiration and made a different version of it in After Effects. Below is the animation that Charlie made earlier.
