Live Project - The Lifting Tower - Concept Artwork

I started off with an idea of the forest being quite dark and creepy but I remembered that black doesn't show up when projecting it onto a wall, so with the minimal colours we're allowed to use (which are black, white, blue, green and red) I went for a dark blue background for the forest with white trees and then made the orb a light blue. Then I figured the with the colours left, green and red, I can make them the lights that appear on the tree when the orb passes them, plus the colour of the lights give off a wintery/xmas vibe.

As you can see this is just a rough representation of what I thought are animation would look like when we project it onto the wall. The size of the forest will be bigger than the lifting tower in width so that the camera will be able to pan through the forest with the orb as it floats round the trees. That square box underneath the orbs spiral trail is supposed to represent the window from the lifting towers wall to show that the orb has shot out from it.

Now in Year 3!: Live Project - The Lifting Tower

To start off the year we have been given a live project just to get are creative juices flowing after the summer holidays. For this project we have to come up with 3 different concepts to do with Christmas but they can't be too Christmasy because they are being projected onto an old lifting tower right outside offices where loads of business men and women will be and they don't want to be seeing cheesy Xman animations all day.

Are visual concepts will need to communicate a contemporary, creative and cool representation of a xmas or winter theme. So in are groups (which involved Emma,Lauren, Katy and I) we can up with three different ideas and decided that I'd do the concept artwork for one, Emma does the second one and Lauren does the third one, while Katy will do all the storyboarding for all three ideas. The three concept ideas were:

- Ribbons fly out of the window to build up iconic landmarks in Leeds
- An orb with a trail floats round a forest lighting up the trees as it passes them and then flies up in a spiral to represent a xmas tree.
- Based on the german market, we're going to have a camera pan though the market and show the essentials like beer and mulled wine, carousel, moose head, food and wooden toys.

So I have been assigned to do the concept artwork for the orb floating round trees idea which I'm pleased with because that was my favourite idea. After I have done the concept artwork I will pass it over to Emma so she can put the boards together at the end.
