Who am I Now?

Throughout the first year of university I got taught a lot of stuff and now that I'm beginning second year in university my tutor has given me a task, which is to answer six questions about myself. So here we go:

Identify 5 things you have learnt so far on the programme.

  • I've learnt quite a lot techniques in different software programme and how the techniques can transferred between softwares.
  • I've learnt how to bring a piece of 3D animation into a 2D software so that I can do some post production on it then render that out and it will still look 3D.
  • I've learnt the proper way to format an animation i.e. what frame rate to put animation at (24fps), that size of the resolution (1080p) and best ways to render an animation (image sequences or video).
  • I've learnt how to create a 3D model in maya, how to texture it and what tools are needed for modelling a character.
  • I've also learnt how to make 2D images in photoshop turn into 3D planes in After Effects by using layers, camera and lighting techniques.
Identify 5 things you want to know more about.

  • I want to learn how to use a green screen in a live action film.
  • I want to learn how motion capture in used in animations.
  • I want to learn more about maya and how I can create realistic models that can interact with one another.
  • I want to learn how to properly texture a character using UV texture mapping in maya.
  • I want to learn more about the software Maya because 3D animation is what I was to go into in the future.
Identify 5 skills that you think are your strengths.

  • knowing my way round and most of the tools in Maya in a strength of mine.
  • another strength is being able to learn new techniques/softwares fast and use that to my advantage.
  • knowing Maya more helps me support other peers in my class using Maya which then helps me understand how Maya can be used in different ways.
  • Being able to stare at a computer screen for a long period of time helps me get more stuff done in a day.
  • lastly I''m good at project management because I keep up to day with my work and I haven't handed in any late work yet.
Identify 5 things you want to improve.

  • I'd like to improve on my Maya skills and improve my character designs in 3D.
  • I'd like to improve on my life drawing skills and understanding the human form.
  • I'd like to improve on my presentation skills because I'm a nervous speaker.
  • I'd like to improve on taking notes in lectures because then I'd have more to write on my blog when it comes to writing up the lectures.
  • I'd like to improve on my pre-production skills i.e doing more research and understanding why I'm creating an animation and what it the purpose of the animation.
Identify 5 practitioners that demonstrate your interest in animation.
  • Mike Hermes is a YouTuber who does tutorials on Maya a 3D software. He is really good at telling you all about the different tools in maya and he also tells you about updates and changes to the software. Another thing about Mike Hermes is that we doesn't just stick to doing one thing in maya, he tries to do everything but in a maintained way and he does step be step tutorials in detail so they do go on for quite a while.
  • David Mattock is a 2D/3D animator and a motion graphics designer based in the UK but also goes to the USA. He is now based in the UK and is setting up a new studio, his work mainly consists of 3D animations and models with some 2D animation as well. He doesn't really have a style which makes him universal in the work that he does, this inspires my to be more creative in different styles and techniques.
  • The CGBros are YouTubes producing animations like the famous 'Brain Divided' and 'Origami'. They specialise in VFX, 3D animation, Student & Independent short films, Motion Graphic Design, BTS, and Tutorials. Plus they're inspiring people to submit their animations to them so that they can help make there animations hit the high views and get noticed.
