Illustrator Induction

In the illustrator induction we worker on how to use the pen tool and how to make cool shapes and different angles. You can do this by holding down the pen tool and then moving it around to make different shapes.
After using the pen tool we learnt how to add colour and different brush definitions to make the image look interesting.

Then what we did was trace over an image and using the pen tool, learning how to duplicate shapes and then pasting the image from illustrator to photoshop to then colour the image in.

timeline animation

In the photoshop induction we developed on our skills further by creating a timeline animation. This process is where you just start drawing straight into the computer, using the timeline you can draw your creations frame by frame whilst using onion skins, which allows you to see through the layers to your past drawings.

The first thing I created was a ball getting swung into a shop and blowing up. I did this because we had to use one of the four elements: fire, water, wind and earth.

After lunch we then had to create a story and use two of the elements from before. I made a cigarette fly into some grass and then set fire to it, but the water from the lake splashes over the fire and puts it out. Unfortunately i wasn't able to finish it in the lessen but I will return to it and finish the  animation later on.

In the photoshop induction we had to scan in our flip books and then edit them and/or create something else using your flip book designs. In this gif i decided to make the ball break and bleed out blood when it hits the ground. I achieved this by scanning all of the pages into photoshop, then editing them by making sure there the right size, changing the levels and then cropping the images so that you can't see that there from a book. after that I used adobe bridge to put the images into a frame by frame.

Photoshop Induction

In our photoshop induction I was taught how to create multiple layers and blend them together. Also how to change the colour and contrast.

Most of want we got taught today I already know because I got taught it when I was at college doing Graphic Design.

In the second half of the day we focused on photo editing and using masking tools to create these images. we achieved this by changing the adjustments and selected sections and changing colours and saturations.

For part of our personal professional practice I had to do a life balance test/experiment to see how I operate around my life. I had to mark each individual aspect of my life out of 100, then connect up the marks so that it shows a shape. the shape then tells me that if there is more space in the middle then I'll have a balanced life.

So from looking at this diagram I need to start working on my relationships, achievements, contentment and security because there quite close to the middle. To be honest I'm happy with the outcome with my life balance.

Why you chose to study on this programme?

I chose to study on the animation programme because ever since I made my first short animation film at college (where I originally went to do 3D woodwork) I absolutely loved it and wanted to do animation from then on. for my final piece at college I created a shot film where I duplicated myself 4 times in the same room and then had a conversation with my 4 different personalities, for this piece I achieved a distinction. Choosing to study at Leeds College of Art wasn't hard to do because the facilities are all up to date and all the equipment are industry standard, so when I go off to work I'll have a good understanding of animation and how it works and what I can do with it.
What do you want to learn during your time on the programme?
I would like to learn how to improve my abilities on the adobe suite programmes and also I would like to learn how to use the green screen and motion capture suites because 3d animation and visual effects are the two main things I would like to go into after college.
What skills do you think are your strengths?
My skills that I've acquired, which are on the computer are a good knowledge of photoshop, illustrator and after effects. I also can produce average quality stop motion animations traditionally and digitally.
What things would you want to improve?
I would like to improve on my traditional drawing techniques because in my opinion my ability to draw isn't the best and i would like to improve on my character designs. I will achieve this by practicing drawing human figures and just start sketching people when I'm out and about. I would also like to improve my abilities/understanding on photoshop, illustrator, after effects, etc. I will do this by going on the programmes more and watch tutorials on how to this/that.
What ways you will evaluate your progress?

I will evaluate my progress by saying what I like and dislike, whether something needs changing or resizing, replacing etc, and I see would if I had achieved the purpose of why it had been created. I will also evaluate my progress by asking other people what they thing of my work so I could get feedback and opinions on what my work is like.
